Before I travelled round the East coast of Australia I had no idea about the different options of travel you could take. I went on my own and had barely planned anything (I have wrote a post about solo travel before which you can read about here).I had no idea how to get around or travel between city to city. There are so many different ways to travel and I thought I would write about some of them here.

Sydney Harbour Bridge

Flying

Now Flying is by far the quickest way to travel from city to city in Australia. As for example Flights between Melbourne and Sydney are about 1 and a half hours long. Domestic flights are normally fairly frequent in Australia with many different Plane companies operating services.

Train

Long distance train travel is expensive and not ideal if you are wanting to reach your next destination fast. However they are more comfortable way to travel compared to buses and may be idea for people who do not enjoy flying as much.

Buses

Now this is the one I have the most experience with. I travelled from Melbourne all the way up to Cairns using the Greyhound buses. The Greyhound hop on and off buses are fairly inexpensive and give you the option to get off at many different locations along the way as long as its only going in one direction. The downside to travelling by bus is that it takes a lot longer than going by plane for example. However it does mean that you can also stop off at many different towns along the way. Two of the main bus services are Greyhound and Premier.

Car/Campervan

Hiring a car and travelling round the East Coast of Australia always sounded like a great idea for me unfortunately I can’t drive. It is one of the easiest ways to get by and it means that you can go at your own pace. However just make sure you are aware that you can go long distances and not go past much.

Transport

York has fairly good transport networks and is easy to get to by train.

By train it is:

From London: 1 hour and 53 minutes

From Leeds: 30 minutes

From Manchester: 1 hour 18 minutes

From Edinburgh: 2 hours 24 minutes

If you are wanting to get there cheaper you can also go by bus using Megabus or National Express.

Places to Eat

Now if you’ve seen my twitter you will see that we went to the York roast Co and had a Yorkshire Pudding Wrap which was incredible and you need to try!

We also went for Dinner at The Cosy Club.

Things to do

York Minister: Is one of the largest Gothic Cathedrals in Northern Europe and is one of the most popular things to visit in York. If you have chance not only go into the cathedral climb to the top and you get a great view of York!

York Chocolate Story: Now this is something that I have never had the chance to do. I don’t know how because I love Chocolate! But it’s a guided tour though Chocolate making and about facts about York’s best Chocolate products like the Chocolate Orange and the Kitkat.

Ghost Walk: Now if you aren’t a fan of scary things or ghost then this probably isn’t for you. But it is really interesting and fun to do if you are interested in Ghosts.

The Shambles: The Shambles are great not only for the fact that it’s so beautiful and great to take photos of. There is also quite a few great shops to visit. If you are a Harry Potter fan there is the The Shop that must not be Named, my favourite The Fudge Kitchen ( Which is a must to visit) and many others.

There are so many other great places to visit in York like The Dungeons, The Jorvik Viking Centre, City Walls and many others.

Hopefully this has inspired you to visit York.

So whenever I hear people from outside of the UK coming to visit. I always ask where they’re going and it’s normally London then maybe like Brighton or Stonehenge and then all the way up to Scotland. What about the North of England like Manchester or Leeds. Liverpool or Newcastle.

So I’m starting a new series on my blog called Travel up North. Which is just going to be posts of some of the best places in the North of England and why you shouldn’t miss out on them on your trip here and even tips of places for people to go locally.

Hopefully it will give some inspiration to visit some new places when you visit.

So in the last 4 years, a lot has changed. I went to University. I finished University. Moved out and now recently moved home. In the past 4 years I’ve also learnt a lot about myself and who I am. I wish there was a lot of things I had known then I was 18. So here as some of the things I wish I could tell my 18 year old self.

Stop caring what people think!

So to be honest, this is still something that gets to me now. I care to much. But I am a lot better than I used to be. I’ve learnt that you just can not please everyone, and this is one of the best things I’ve come to realise and has overall made me a lot happier.

We all make mistakes

We all make mistakes from time to time. So what? Stop worrying about it and just learn from it. If only I could have known and understood that back then.

Stop trying to do things just to fit in

Stop trying to fit in. Stop doing things to make them like you. It’s better to be alone than to be in a group and still feel alone.  You will find people to be friends with that like you for you not who you pretend to be. That’s what I wish my 18 year old self also knew.

Things won’t always go as planned and thats alright

When I first went to Uni I was going to do my three year degree then work as an assistant Psychologist then go do my Masters. I finished my degree over a year ago now and that’s as far as I’ve got. And that’s okay I may not be where I planned to be but if that still ends up being what I want to do then I will get there one day. You can read more about this on my one year after graduating post. 

Believe In Yourself

Believing in yourself is one of the best things you can do. You can do anything you want if you just work hard and believe in yourself.

 

So I’m terrible for procrastination. Very rarely do I have blog posts wrote before they go up and when I was at Uni I would always be the one doing an all nighter the night before an assignment was due in. Every. Single. Time.

This isn’t because I start these things last minute. I don’t really. I just get distracted by all the things around me. Not going to lie. It is normally either twitter instagram or Youtube. But recently I’ve been more organised and prepared. I have post scheduled to go and ideas ready to be used. Which is all really new to me.

So I thought I would share with you some of the things I’ve been doing to try to stop procrastinating.

50/10 rule

So the 50/10 rules is when you spend 50 minutes doing the tasks you need to get done and then 10 minutes having a break and repeat. I find this so useful as otherwise I get very distracted very quickly. By doing this it helps me to stay focused for the 50 minutes as I then know I’ll have the 10 minutes to catch up and look at things like social media.

Breaking goals down into smaller goals and set deadlines

When I don’t have a deadline for my goals, I find that I just keep putting them off and they never get done. I’ve found now that when I take a goal and make them into lots of smaller goals it is much easier. To make this even better I have a planner where I put in what I want to get done at certain times of the day which allows me to keep on track with what I want to get done for the day.

Remind yourself why the task is important

Whether its your blog or assignments for school or University or maybe even revision for an exam. It’s important to remember why it’s important to you. That should hopefully give you the bit of motivation you need to get started.

So these are some of the things I try do to stop procrastinating and stay motivated.
